Distinguished colleagues:
In accordance with the plans of International Society for Information Studies (IS4SI) and multi-national universities and institutions, the 3rd IS4SI Summit will be held in the University of California, Berkeley, USA, from June 1 to 7, 2019. The 4th International Conference on Philosophy of Information (ICPI) is one of its conferences.
The ICPI has its predecessors in conferences held in Xi’an, China in October 2013, Vienna, Austria in June 2015, and Gothenburg, Sweden in June 2017. These conferences brought together scientists and philosophers in the academic field and industry from all over the world, and have achieved fruitful results.
Since the 3rd International Conference on Philosophy of Information (ICPI), the world has witnessed a new development of studies on philosophy of information. Based on that, we propose the theme and topics of the 4th ICPI, as well as certain research topics in related fields. Hereinafter, we present here our call for papers from you and your institutions and communities.
Overall Theme of the ICPI 2019 Conference
The overall theme is the Philosophy of Information and the Development of the Intelligent Society. Key included topics are the philosophical foundations and systems aspects of the intelligent society.
Objectives
Scientists, philosophers and futurists have made different proposals for the development of an intelligent human society, based on the rapid development of the Internet, virtual reality, deep learning, nanotechnology, quantum information science, bioengineering, human enhancement technology, and the science and technology of artificial intelligence. Among them, there have been various schools of thought, pessimistic and/or optimistic. It is necessary to make serious analyses and research from the perspectives of philosophy of information, and to make reasonable responses by absorbing the reasonable factors and criticizing the subjective and semi-sci-fi renderings of current thoughts.
One of the important aspects is the comparative study of concepts, ideas and theories in information science, philosophy of information and related fields. This aspect involves the deepening and expansion of the basic theories of philosophy of information. In addition, the development prospects of intelligent society, related ethical issues, political and economic institutional issues are also our focus.
